Yan Wal Yun, the country’s leading manufacturer and distributor of seasoning products under the trademarks "Deksomboon and I-Chef, has launched its soy sauce in tablet form to lure new young customer target.
Vasupol Tangsombatvisit, the company’s assistant executive manager and board committee, said that this Deksombon soy sauce tablet was recently introduced to all Gourmet Market stores before branching out to other retail channels soon. One pack of this soy sauce tablet contains 12 tablets with price of 35 baht.
Deksomboon soy sauce tablet was developed for the first time in the world's seasoning industry. The company started to export this product to the United States and European market since April this year with great good start.
‘’We create this soy sauce in tablet form to excite the soy sauce industry be not boring like in the past. Moreover, in tablet form, we can increase our logistics efficiency, exporting more volume to foreign markets. It also meets the needs of new-generation consumers, who now cook less at home than the past five years due to prefer to eat out of home. Consuming soy sauce tablets also help control sodium intake,’’ Mr Vasupol said.
Mr Vasupol is the third generation to join the company’s management team in his 23 years old.
‘’First time I do is to think out of the box and try to balance thought of old and young generation teams and blend them. We try to create new innovation for our products to represent Thai food taste and bring our branding to customer’s mind,’’ he said.
In addition to soy sauce tablet, the company is also preparing to launch a new brand called “Kai Brand” to sell dipping sauces, seafood sauces, and Sriracha chili sauce in China through online platforms and distribution centers, that have been in China market for more than a decade.
“According to the plan for the first year in China, we will start building a brand to let Chinese people know that Kai Brand is a product from Thailand. And if they think of the authentic Thai taste of Thai food, they must think of products from Dek Somboon and Kai Brand,” said Mr Vasupol.
He adds that the company has built new fish sauce factory worth 300 million baht in Samut Sakhon and started the operation this year. The factory has production capacity of 610,000 bottles per day. The company will aggressively expand Deksomboon fish sauce market both domestic and abroad.
In addition, the company has previously expanded its portfolio from seasoning to the soft-serve ice cream market, which currently has four branches in Yaowarat, Charoen Krung, Samut Sakhon, and the head office on Sathorn Road. The ice cream is available in two flavors and price of 35 baht per cup.
Yan Wal Yun was established in 1947, producing various seasonings such as seasoning sauce, vinegar, pepper, and others. The company has branched out its portfolio to soy sauce soda and soy sauce candy and soft serve ice cream.
The company is the market leader in Thailand’s seasoning market with corporate market share of 37%. It has total sales of 6 billion baht in 2023 and aims to increase sales by 10% to 6.6 billion baht this year. Of the total, 30% comes from exports and 70% is from domestic market. The company expects its sales to reach 10 billion baht in the near future.
