The PM and Swiss President agree on finalizing Thailand – EFTA FTA within this year
The PM and Swiss President agreed on finalizing Thailand – The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) FTA within this year.
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Srettha Thavisin met President Viola Amherd of Switzerland during his attendance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos.
The PM discussed the Swiss President about the FTA between Thailand and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), for which the negotiation is underway and is expected to be finalized within this year.
EFTA comprises Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, is set up for the promotion of free trade and economic cooperation between its members, within Europe and globally.
Thailand and EFTA have resumed the FTA negotiation. The FTA will cover terms and conditions for trade and commerce between the two parties in all dimensions in a bid to promote economic expansion and employment in Thailand and the EFTA member countries.
Thailand is aiming to sign three free trade agreement with EFTA, Sri Lanka and the other agreement is the Asean-Australia-New Zealand FTA, which represents an upgrade to the existing agreement, covering a broader range of goods, services, and investment.
He also thanked Switzerland for joining Thailand in authorizing the Bangkok E-Bus Programme that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in Bangkok.
