EEC Policy Committee endorsed the first phase of a special promotion zone, EEC business centre and smart city

The Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee approved the first phase with 5,795 rai of a special promotion zone, EEC business centre and livable smart city in Tambon Huai Yai, Bang Lamung District of Chonburi province.

The committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai agreed to establish a of a special promotion zone, business centre and smart city in Tambon Huai Yai, Bang Lamung District of Chonburi province.

The first phase will include 5,795 rai out of total 14,619 rai with total investment 534.98 billion baht.

The zone is aimed to be developed as a centre of targeted industries including medical and wellness centre, human resource development education, aviation & logistics, food processing, tourism, regional head quarter, regional financial hub, and other services, commercial centre and lodging

EEC’s smart city will be developed based on an innovative technological system that covers seven areas of smart mobility, smart living, smart energy, smart environment, smart people smart economy and smart governance.

Smart city is expected to have amount 350,000 residences and will generates more than 1.2 trillion baht in salaries for employee and create at least 200,000 new jobs, as well as create between 150-300 start-ups. The project is forecasted to stimulate additional two trillion baht of GDP within ten years and become one smart city among ten of the global by 2037.

Smart city development in three provinces is a flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) which is expected to upgrade the livelihood of residents there, according to the EEC Office.

The corridor spans three eastern provinces covering Chon Buri, Rayong and Chachoengsao.

The committee also accelerate for The U-tapao International Aviation Co (UTA) and the Royal Thai Navy to speed up for the construction of the second runway and taxiway worth 16.4 billion baht on the requirement of the government by next year.
