Toyota Ban Pho Plant, Thailand, committed to achieve carbon neutrality in 2030

Chachoengsao: Toyota Ban Pho, Thailand, is aimed to achieve the first plant of carbon neutrality by 2030 among five plants in Japan, the US, UK, France and Thailand.

The others are Japan’s Tsutsumi plant, the US’s Toyota Mississippi, the UK’s Toyota Mfg., France’s Toyota Motor.

Toyota Ban Pho Plant located in a special economic promotional zone of EEC, Chachoengsao’s Bang Kla district.

The Toyota Ban Pho Plant has made sustainable investments in line with the Eastern Economic Corridor’s policy for bio-circular-green(BCG) economy such as the plant has installed solar-power and co-generation systems to increase manufacturing efficiency and curb energy consumption.

Its energy distribution system is also centralized, paving the way for energy efficiency and reducing carbon-dioxide emissions by 19,200 tons a year.

Moreover, the plant has invested in community development. For instance, it has supported communities’ access to clean water sources.

The plant also has more than 60 rai of forested areas that serve as a learning center on biodiversity and sustainability.

In addition, Vice president for corporate affairs, Nuntawat Srivaratachkul said Toyota still continued to develop next generation hydrogen fuel cell to deliver industry leading performance through longer lifecycles and reduced cost and the manufacturing electrical vehicles on a requirement EV package of the Thai government policy.

Established in 2007 with total investment 15 billion baht. The Toyota Ban Pho Plant has an annual production capacity of 175,000 units per year in 2003 to manufacture innovation /international multi- purpose vehicles (IMV) including Vigo and Fortuner which is not only for the domestic Thai market, but also for export to more than 90 markets worldwide.

Mr Chula Sukmanop, secretary general of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO), said the Toyota Ban Pho plant showed a success story of how investments in EEC area could benefit communities and the environment.

The special economic promotional zone in Ban Pho is the zone for next-generation automotive industry which has crucial importance to foster future mobility and form the foundation for entrepreneurs interested in electric-vehicle manufacturing. Key EV parts will be manufactured in the zone, new business opportunities will emerge in the EV industry’s supply chain. Supported by world-class EV parts, EEC will be developed to become the regional EV hub.
