EEC, SET, SEC and BOT promote the EEC fund raising to facilitate EEC targeted industries, SMEs and Start-Up in accessing new source of funds and funding vehicles
Mr. Chula Sukmanop, secretary-general of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Office said that EEC will be working with the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) to promote the “EEC Fundraising Venue”.
The initiative aims to develop a financial ecosystem to promote direct investments in the EEC area by making available greater choice for fund raising in Thailand thus complementing existing instruments in the money and capital markets. Direct investments by multinationals, both foreign and local, in the EEC area as well as SMEs and start-up in 12 targeted industries including green projects will be able to do financial transactions, raise funds, and access financial services with greater flexibility and competitive terms.
In this regard, the EEC and SET, with the approval of the SEC and the BOT, will jointly conduct a feasibility study to gain insights to develop an appropriate trading infrastructure to support the “EEC Fundraising Venue”.
“The EEC Fundraising Venue will be developed through 2 different path 1) the traditional path, to introduce new listing board in USD or foreign currency. It aims to facilitate businesses interested in raising funds, reporting financial statements in foreign currency, or using foreign currency as a functional currency in their operations. 2) The Digital Path, raising funds in the form of digital asset in the Thai Digital Assets Exchange (TDX), which will be a new vehicle to raise funds for innovative businesses either in the form of project finance, or start-ups.”
Mr Pakorn Peetathawatchai, president, Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) said that SET is pleased to support the EEC in the development of the EEC fundraising venue as it will help broaden the funding options for both Thai and foreign companies, especially for companies using foreign currency as a functional currency or Thai companies listed and operating abroad.
Ms. Jomkwan Kongsakul, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) supported the development of EEC fundraising venue which will start with the US Dollar as it will benefit both issuers and investors, in the choice of currency to raise capital and in making portfolio investments. In addition, the project is in line with the SEC's strategy of supporting investment and funding for the new economy industries and increase new listing on the stock exchange. In particular, current listing criteria will be applied thus closely adhering to the principle of protecting consumers and investors.
