Mr. Kaweesak Boonchaleaw, managing director of PTT Digital Solutions Company Limited, stated that “logistics industry is believed to be sources of consistent growth, so many business sectors expect to see growth in new entrants to further develop ground and air freight transport infrastructure – including cold chain transport & storage and logistics equipment rental, along with digital platforms.
Many businesses are looking for new technologies to bolster their capabilities competitively and to reduce their logistics costs, which currently account for 2 trillion baht or 13% of Thai GDP. Such high costs are the reason behind partnering with GML to introduce the HERMES platform for complete logistics control and vehicle monitoring developed by PTT Digital to successfully advance a wide range of logistics management capabilities of GML.
The MOU with GML encompasses 3 key areas:
1. GML’s rail and terminal business processes: including freight documentation, rail tracking, and other services (as appropriate) through the HERMES platform for freight control and tracking developed and designed by PTT Digital. For example, the HERMES platform can be used to track rail freight from origin to destination, reserve shipping containers, produce reports and shipping related paperwork – facilitating the shipping process for rail and terminal freight customers.
2. Air Logistics: leverages technology to assist air freight customers to manage product storage/inventory at the air cargo terminal to facilitate both domestic and international shipments in the most efficient manner. The service is suitable for air freight businesses which import and export good to all business sectors.
3. Cold Chain Logistics: leverages technology to handle cold storage and temperature and humidity-controlled freight shipments for the international digital trading of agricultural produce on Digital International Trading Platform. PTT Digital will develop the trading platform for GML to be the main logistic channel for trade in agricultural produce.
Mr. Kraiyasit Intarapanich, acting president of Global Multimodal Logistics Company Limited, said that “this collaboration between GML and PTT Digital is an opportunity to integrate the technological capabilities of PTT Digital and the logistical capabilities of GML to develop the logistics platform to expand business opportunities and strengthen the Thai economy, which is an important part of PTT PCL’s economic role.
